Photography has been my passion since childhood, when I excitedly wrapped my hands around my first 110 film camera (remember those?). My family moved often and
the photos I shot were usually the best way to remember what
my town looked like and who my friends were. I was formally
trained in photography at the Journalism School of Northwestern
University, as well as Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.
Add to that my Graphic Design training, both in school and
on the job, and you have a person who has got the “eye”
for what works in a photograph.
I
have been using Adobe Photoshop as an image manipulation
and design tool since 1991 (yep, I'm a veteran retoucher),
as well as illustration, painting and web design software.
I am often shooting live performances and having been a
amateur performer myself,
I have a special place in my heart to help those folks create
images that capture the excitement of their show. After
all, if you are performing, you want to be SEEN, a photograph
is part of your calling card when you are out there looking
for a new audience.
During
the rare times I step away from my computer, I often have
my nose in a book, preferably outdoors with the sun shining
on my back, listening to the sounds of nature and feeling
hugely grateful for all the gifts that come to me every
single day. This call to nature is also reflected in much
of my retouching work, I prefer to keep the people looking
their natural best, with minimal illusion, just enhancing
enough that you see YOUR natural gifts rather than creating
a look that is impossible to believe. You want your friends
and family to recognize you in a photograph, but leave them
wondering why you photograph so well and they don’t
:-) That said, I also want images to reflect their subject's desires so "the sky's the limit" on what I can do for you, I love it all!! |
